5.4 windcatcher by aurora designs

Though the Windcatcher captures light rather than wind, it recalls the beautifully simple design of its outdoor cousin. One can almost imagine this luminaire spinning in a light breeze even while sitting under it in the calm atmosphere of a small café.
The Windcatcher was designed to be used in small cafés or restaurants where a certain mood or ambiance is desired. It is meant to be used in multiples as accent lighting rather than for the main lighting source but that does not mean they fade into the background. Indeed, the Windcatcher calls attention to itself with its soft golden glow and hint of movement.

Dawn,

Good to see your lantern project. I appreciate the beautiful FormZ renderings and your photos of the real lamp.

Your dark room rendering shows that the fixture works best at the table where you can control the angle of view to ensure that the source is shielded from the user's eyes. To make the image more legible, you could add a supplementary point light source (low brightness and shadow casting OFF) OR if you have more patience, you could fiddle with Radiozity. For that to work, you need to make sure that your model is in real scale and then play with the brightness of the single source. (We want to be able to see the kitty.)

I appreciate your description and your branding of Aurora Designs - very catchy! If you want to make the Windcatcher look like it will sway, perhaps you need to replace the cylindrical rod support with something that looks less solid and more pliable (rope, chain, etc.).

On your layout, I would have made the glowing axon rendering the large one and saved the wireframe for small orthogonal drawings (with dimensions?). Nice font and colors - perhaps the first paragraph indentation could be removed to give a more solid block of text.
