8.1 Leaves on That Water Thing


An experiment with the layering technique we were talking about in class. Because I don't have a full model of the building I am designing a lighting fixture for (or, indeed, the lighting fixture itself) I decided to use this little water vessel I built as a Nurbz cross section expiriment. Wee…

I love the texture you put on the vessel: it has a really authentic patina. I see that the white lines are an experiment. If you want to make it have realistic highlights, it helps to chamfer or roung/fillet the edges of objects so they catch the light. Some years ago, a researcher got a big computer graphics award for being able to simulate the rusting patina of different metals - you have that sort of richness in your rendering.

Here, I found the reference. Even if I don't follow all the technical details, I find it fascinating how researchers observe the details of visual phenomenon so closely that they can simulate them accurately.
